The Element topside cheeseplate is designed to span the gap between the front and rear top rod mounts. As its name implies it is covered in holes, both 1/4-20 and 3/8-16. The 1/4-20 holes utilize the same spacing as RED's top mounts. The 3/8-16 holes are on Arri spacing and run along the top and sides of the plate. It is compatible with both the 19mm top rod mounts from RED as well as the 15mm top rod mounts from Element and is a must have for low-mode Steadicam operation. Our cheese plate has been tested with low-mode plates from Tiffen, PRO and Greg Bubb.

When two 15mm top mounts are sold with our cheese plate we refer to this as a Topside Combo and you save a lot off of their individual prices. These products together give you 15mm iris rod mounting while making a round camera flat. You also get the functionality of 1/4-20 threaded holes at RED spacing interspersed with 3/8-16 threaded holes at Arri spacing along the top.
For the hardcore 15mm accessory user, Element has created 15mm iris rod mounts for the top of the RED One. The rods are 100mm apart while symmetrically spaced 60mm above the optical axis. The rod mounts are low profile and light weight while maintaining the same 1/4-20 mounting holes as RED's top mounts. They are very strong and can be used individually or in pairs. They also provide a solid base for mounting our cheese plate.
They are light weight and simple enough that many of our customers have ordered extra to use as 15mm universal mounts for battery and cradle mounting on a 15mm system.

This article is meant to explain how to properly mount your element top mounts and cheese plate for optimal functionality. Due to the tight tolerances that we use to produce our parts, you will need to follow these steps to properly mount your new hardware.
- 1. First align each top mount on the front and back and screw them into the body lightly. DO NOT tighten the screws yet.
- 2. Slide the cheese plate into position in between the top mounts. There are eight screws provided with the cheeseplate. Four are 1" and four are 1.25". If you are using Red's 19mm top mounts, you will need the 1" screws. If you are using Element's 15mm top mounts, you will need 1.25" screws. Insert two screws into the innermost holes on the front and rear top mount. DO NOT tighten these yet either.
- 3. Slide a rod into the top mounts on both sides and pass them through both mounts. Make sure the rods slide freely in the mounts.
- 4. Tighten the screws on the top mount on the rear of the camera. Confirm the rods still slide freely.
- 5. Tighten the screws on the top mount on the front of the camera. Confirm the rods still slide freely.
- 6. Tighten the screws that pass through to the cheeseplate on the rear top mount. Confirm the rods still slide freely.
- 7. Tighten the screws that pass through to the cheeseplate on the front top mount. Confirm the rods still slide freely.
- 8. You're Done!
